Green Cleaning Explained

Green Carpet CleaningWhat exactly qualifies as green cleaning?

Green cleaning solutions use rapidly biodegradable, renewable surfactants. They contain absolutely no solvents of any kind, contain no known carcinogens, and are non-toxic. They are ideal for cleaning in homes with chemical sensitivities as they contain no added harsh fragrances. They are also approved by the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) Seal of Approval Program (SOA) signifying their cleaning effectiveness, as well as the fact they do not contribute to re-soiling. Qualified certified green cleaners are considerably more expensive, so many cleaners charge extra. We, however provide those solutions at no added charge as a courtesy.

Is green cleaning worth it?

Unfortunately the term green cleaning has become more of a marketing phase that an actual customer benefit. What they don’t tell you is there are many quality cleaning solutions that are non toxic and biodegradable, and contain no known carcinogens. This means that even though they aren’t specifically labeled green,  they don’t hurt the environment, or you.  The biggest difference lies in the solvents and fragrances. Is this bad or good? Solvents break up dirt and grease and, more importantly, help reduce lead (see our free report). Fragrances are mostly a matter of personal preference.  On our carpet cleaning page, we discussed how proper pH management plays an important role in re-soiling so a good technician is just as important as the cleaning solution. However, those with severe allergies, or chemical sensitivities may benefit from the use of green cleaners.
