Carpet Cleaning Explained
When it comes to carpet cleaners, there are a lot of options here in the valley. So how do you know which one to choose? There are 3 questions that are vital to ask. (If you want more detailed information on why these things will save you money click here)
1) What kind of equipment do you have?
All carpet cleaning equipment is not created equal. Avoid anyone who uses what is referred to as portable extractors (except in cases where a truck mount machine wont reach). They simply don’t get hot enough, or extract well enough to do the best job. It is important to choose a cleaner that has truck mounted equipment strong enough to not only clean, but to sanitize. Why?
The FDA has conducted in depth studies on your carpet’s impact on your health. It turns out that your carpets are the second most contaminated area in your home. They act as giant filter for your house, collecting dust and allergens. Even worse carpets are home to thousands of dust mites. Each one producing over 2000 fecal particles during its 70 day life span. Inhalations of these particles has been linked to respiratory problems and asthma. In short, failure to clean regularly, and properly, can result in discomfort and illness. If you want to kill dust mites and sanitize your carpets, you have to choose a cleaner who has equipment that can consistently clean with water at least as hot as boiling.

2)What pH are the carpets when you’re done?
This question will save you loads of money!
With that simple question you can find out the level of skill and training your cleaner has. Most prespray solutions have a very high pH. (A good cleaner will know the exact pH of any chemicals they use on your carpets if you really want to put them to the test) This is great for breaking up dirt, but failure to neutralize will make your carpets much more prone to re-soiling. Some of our clients came to us because “After my other cleaner left, my carpets got dirty again really fast”. Proper management of pH is vital to the look, feel, and longevity of your carpets. A good cleaner will always leave the carpets close to 7. Proper cleaning, by a skilled technician, with quality equipment can double the life of your carpet.
3)Do you charge extra for stain removal?
This is more to get an idea of how the company operates. Are they nickel and dimers? Or are they customer focused? There is nothing more frustrating than to be quoted one price, only to find out it is going to cost much more to get the job done right. Did you notice “How much do you charge?” was not the first question? That’s because asking these questions will let you know if your cleaner is qualified and customer oriented. A qualified cleaner will do the job you pay for, and a customer oriented cleaner will ALWAYS do it at a fair price. In fact, in many cases paying more does not give you a better clean. There are literally hundreds of qualified cleaners cleaners in the valley who are not customer oriented. And there even more customer oriented cleaners who are not qualified. But when you find both, the results can be spectacular.
